If a vehicle has a third party device (like a wheelchair lift or snowplows) that affects the ODBII device, Radius puts the telematics device in “Listen Mode”.
Listen-only mode allows a device to receive broadcast messages without sending query messages. By setting the device to operate in listen-only mode, potential communication issues caused by excessive message querying by other devices can be reduced or warning messages can be prevented.
However, when a device is in Listen Mode depending on the make/model/year of the vehicle, there's some vehicles that do not send certain pieces of information regularly like Odometer, Engine Hours, Fuel Used, at all and that information is only captured when the OBDII device requests it. If we put the device into Listen Mode, we may no longer be able to capture certain pieces of information- or we may only get them irregularly. The device will still track, and we can update the vehicle settings in the platform for odometer and engine hours to capture “calculated” to help account for that loss of data.
